Grant Writer

Position Summary
The Alliance for the Advancement of Infant Mental Health (Alliance) is seeking a skilled and experienced Grant Writer to support its mission of strengthening the infant and early childhood mental health-informed (IECMH) workforce. This role involves identifying, writing, and securing funding opportunities that align with the Alliance's strategic goals. The Grant Writer will be responsible for developing compelling proposals for general operating support, capacity-building, and program-specific initiatives, ensuring the Alliance continues to innovate and deliver high-quality workforce development strategies.
As an independent contractor, the Grant Writer will collaborate with the Alliance's leadership and program managers to prioritize funding opportunities, build relationships with funders, and create templates and processes to support sustainable grant-seeking practices.
Primary Responsibilities
Grant Research and Identification
Identify funding opportunities that align with the Alliance's mission and strategic priorities, including operational, capacity-building, and programmatic grants.
Maintain a list of potential funders, including foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
Grant Proposal Development
Write and submit compelling grant applications tailored to funder requirements, ensuring alignment with the Alliance’s goals and strategies.
Develop supporting materials such as budgets, timelines, and program narratives.
Renewal and Follow-On Grants
Manage the renewal process for existing grants, ensuring continuity of funding for ongoing programs.
Prepare and submit required reports and follow-up documentation to funders.
Collaboration and Capacity Building
Partner with member associations and other stakeholders to identify opportunities for collaborative grant applications.
Mentor Alliance staff on grant-related processes and provide training on managing grant renewals and preparing simpler applications.
Progress Tracking and Reporting
Maintain detailed records of grant submissions, outcomes, and deadlines.
Provide monthly reports to Alliance leadership summarizing activities, successes, and next steps.
Funder Relationship Management
Build and nurture relationships with funders through communication and engagement, positioning the Alliance as a trusted partner.
Research and prepare for future strategic initiatives by identifying funders aligned with anticipated priorities.
Support for Strategic Initiatives
Contribute to short-term and pilot project funding needs, securing resources for innovative ideas during the strategic planning process.
Prepare the Alliance to respond quickly to emerging funding opportunities.
The Alliance will support the Contractor with the following:
1. Access to previous grant applications, reports, etc. from the last three years.
2. Commit to biweekly meetings with contractor to assess progress and finalize next steps.
3. The provision of up-to-date financial and Alliance policy documents required by individual funders.
4. Leadership on program development and solicitation of Letters of Support/Commitment/MOUs as required by individual funders.
5. Collective feedback on all draft and final grant documents (according to mutually agreed upon timelines specific to individual grant applications).
Required Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, English, public administration, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
At least 3-5 years of professional experience in grant writing, proposal development, or fundraising for nonprofit organizations.
Grant Writing Expertise
Proven track record of successfully securing funding from foundations, corporations, and/or government agencies.
Experience writing grants for operational support, capacity-building, and program-specific initiatives.
Strong knowledge of grant proposal components, including narratives, budgets, and supporting documentation.
Knowledge and Skills
Familiarity with the infant and early childhood mental health field or related social services is a plus.
Strong understanding of nonprofit funding mechanisms and grant cycles.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft compelling and persuasive narratives.
Proficiency in research and the ability to identify and align funding opportunities with organizational priorities.
Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects simultaneously.
Collaboration and Relationship-Building
Ability to work collaboratively with leadership, program managers, and external partners.
Experience building and maintaining relationships with funders and other stakeholders.
Technology Proficiency
Proficiency with grant management tools, databases, and research platforms.
Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or equivalent tools.
Personal Attributes
Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Self-motivated and able to work independently in a remote environment.

Compensation
The Alliance agrees to pay an hourly rate of $60–$75, based on the contractor's experience and qualifications. A flat rate may be negotiated for large grant applications and/or letters of intent, depending on the requirements, length, and complexity of the grant.
